This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have a range of well-developed hospitality service, sales or operational skills and sound knowledge of industry operations. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under limited supervision using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, food and beverage and gaming.

Examples of industry sectors employment may be gained in are Accommodation and Food Services, Entertainment & Recreation Services and Self Employment.

SITSS00051 - Food Safety Supervision

A set of skills to equip individuals in hygienic practices and handling food safely during the storage, preparation, display, service and disposal of food. Class availability is subject to minimum numbers.

The skills you learn will apply to venues that operate a permanent or temporary kitchen or smaller food preparation area, including restaurants, cafes, clubs, hotels, attractions, events and conference venues, fast food restaurants, retail food outlets such as sandwich shops and food court outlets. It would also apply to tour operators involved in the preparation and service of food at temporary sites.

Remember: The NSW Food Authority Food Safety Supervisor certificate is valid for 5 years. It is a requirement to renew your certificate through a recertification/refresher course. This skill set course can also be used for recertification as long as it is completed within 90 days of your existing certificate expiring.

This course meets the NSW  Food Authority Standard. Certification requirements typically apply at a state level to individuals involved in food handling or supervision.

The course covers the following units:-

  • SITXFSA001 - Use hygienic practices for food safety AND
  • SITXFSA002 - Participate in safe food handling practices .

This skill set has application to hospitality, commercial catering and retail venues where food is stored, prepared, displayed, served or disposed of.

SITHFAB005 - Prepare and serve espresso coffee

This Unit of Competency describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to extract and serve espresso coffee beverages using commercial espresso machines and grinders. Classes are subject to minimum numbers.

It requires the ability to advise customers on coffee beverages, select and grind coffee beans, prepare and assess espresso coffee beverages and to use, maintain and clean espresso machines and grinders.

This Unit of Competency applies to any hospitality organisation that serves espresso coffee beverages, including cafes, restaurants, bars, clubs, function and event venues.

It applies to espresso machine operators who operate with some level of independence and under limited supervision.

SIR30216 - Certificate III in Retail

This qualification supports the role of individuals who have the responsibility of engaging the customer and maintaining daily store operations. You also service and sell product and services offerings. It will enhance your skillset to possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement is required.

It also develops your skillset with the knowledge to work with some independence under limited supervision. Some individuals working at this level are responsible for supervising other team members and monitoring day-to-day workplace operations.

Examples of industry sectors employment may be gained in are Retail, Accommodation and Food Services. The retail sector is vast and comprehensive, offering a broad range of roles with many prospects to advance your career.

The qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as developing and emerging leaders or managers in a range of enterprise and industry contexts. As well as assuming responsibility for their own performance, individuals at this level provide leadership, guidance and support to others.

They also have some responsibility for organising and monitoring the output of their team. They apply solutions to a defined range of predictable and unpredictable problems. They also analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources.

TLI31616 - Certificate III in Warehousing Operations

This qualification is designed to give people the capacity to work in the warehousing and storage industry.

This course is intended for people who want to learn how to receive, handle and despatch goods for distribution to customers. They will learn how to identify, pick, pack and stow stock and use inventory systems to conduct stock counts.

Availability of this course is subject to demand based on expressions of interest.

This Unit of Competency will give you the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid in a range of situations. This includes the home, workplace or within the community - until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

Overall, this Unit covers:

  • First Aid response
  • Life support
  • Management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders. 
This Unit of Competency will cover (but not limited to) the following skills and knowledge:
  • Respond to an emergency situation.
  • Apply appropriate first aid procedures. 
  • Communicate details of the incident.
